Caitlin is currently a year into a degree in Politics at Loughborough University, with Geography and Social Pyschology as minor subjects.
In 2004 at 18 years of age Caitlin thought she was going to spend her summer recovering from the stress of her A-Levels until an inspired swim in the 200m freestyle final at the British trials catapulted her into the reckoning to represent Team GB at the Athens Olympic Games in the 4x200m relay.
Caitlin is one of the most exciting athletes likely to represent Team GB in Beijing in 2008 and she will certainly be one of the most high profile.
So CaitlinMcClatchey, you were born in Portsmouth, speak with an impeccably English accent and hone your skills at Loughborough University with England assistant coach Ben Titley.
McClatchey, the first Scottish woman to win an individual medal in world championship history when she took bronze over 400 metres freestyle last summer, might have been forgiven for raising her bagpipes in anger.
Caitlin's compromise was academic: she would join Titley's squad, read politics and get to train with the likes of England's Melanie Marshall, fellow medal hope over 200 metres freestyle in Melbourne.
