Calcutta is an unincorporated community and census-designated place located in Columbiana County, Ohio. As of the 2000 census, the community had a total population of 3,491.

Geography

Calcutta is located at 40°40'56" North, 80°34'13" West (40.682271, _80.570204)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 30.5 km² (11.8 mi²). 30.4 km² (11.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.17% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 3,491 people, 1,417 households, and 1,025 families residing in Calcutta. The population density is 114.7/km² (297.1/mi²). There are 1,473 housing units at an average density of 48.4/km² (125.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 98.51% White, 0.17% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.72% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.09% from other races, and 0.46% from two or more races. 0.66% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,417 households out of which 27.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.2% are married couples living together, 7.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.6% are non-families. 25.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.38 and the average family size is 2.84.

The population is spread out with 20.6% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 23.7% from 25 to 44, 27.4% from 45 to 64, and 22.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 45 years. For every 100 females there are 86.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 84.6 males.

The median income for a household in the community is $36,194, and the median income for a family is $45,750. Males have a median income of $41,077 versus $21,352 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $19,536. 8.3% of the population and 3.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 8.1% of those under the age of 18 and 9.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
