Boundaries

The constituency covers an area of West Yorkshire close to Halifax, in the Calderdale district. The southern boundary is normally the M62 motorway. Its northern boundary is on the A58/A641 intersection (Official MBC Boundaries), and in Shelf, three miles from Halifax. This constituency does not include the township of Halifax. The western boundary is the border between West Yorkshire and Lancashire/Greater Manchester. If I had lived locally, I would have been scurrying around the valleys of Calder looking for a friendly bookie to place various modest wagers on what from a distance I regarded as a cert - this morning I would be considerably richer.
Who better to represent a constituency than a qualified candidate who actually is part of the community he or she aspires to represent.
Calder Valley will have the correct person in Westminster who will make sure that our constituency issues will be taken seriously.

The constituency played an early role in the development of industry, and evidence can be found in the towns and villages and in the many older mills that still stand in the remote valleys and narrow hillsides.
Calder Valley has a lower than average level of car ownership, and because of deregulation and privatisation, there are increasing limitations to public transport.
I am proud that Calder High is the oldest purpose-built comprehensive in the country, and it continues to provide an excellent, open and challenging education to every child within its catchment area, whatever his or her academic ability.
