Canada for ten days in late September and early October. The film festival is a relatively new addition to Calgary's cultural scene and the first one was held in 2000. Since that time, it has grown to become one of the most important in Canada. Attendance is usually around 40,000.
The film festival shows works from around the world, and generally screens films in a wide variety of genres.
Alberta's rich cultural heritage and landscape have been playing more and more leading roles in the world of cinema.
CIFF continues to celebrate and reward the excellence of Alberta filmmakers who have stayed home on the range.
This year we focus on the rich western heritage, past challenges, present glory, and future promise of these artists, their films, locations and stories.
We would love to present these films at the festival, but it is coming down to dollars and cents.
Because of the delay in the festival and the issues with the prior venue we lost our all of our sponsors; because of this, the festival can only be successful if we see some more faces at the movies.
Calgary will be the first city in North America to view this Japanese subtitled only film.
