Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 6,320 people, 1,962 households, and 1,347 families residing in the county. The population density is 9/km˛ (23/mi˛). There are 2,305 housing units at an average density of 3/km˛ (8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the county is 38.26% White, 60.60% Black or African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.06% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.44% from other races, and 0.49% from two or more races. 2.99% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
