The California School of Professional Psychology (CSPP), now a school of Alliant International University, was founded in 1969 as an endeavor of the California Psychological Association. At the time of its founding, over 90% of psychologists in California were trained outside of the state as academicians. The school became the first free-standing school of professional psychology, and remains one of the largest schools of its kind. Over thirty schools throughout the US now use the school's training model to develop professional psychologists. The San Francisco Bay campus is home to an innovative online post-doctoral masters program in psychopharmacology that is on the forefront of advancing prescription privilege for psychologist. In 2005, the first civilian medical psychologist to write a drug prescription in Louisiana was a CSPP psychologist. CSPP became accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in 1977.
