The California State Highway System

California State Route 299 is a California state highway that runs across Northern California. It runs from Arcata on the Pacific Ocean to the border with Nevada. Between Arcata and Redding, Route 299 junctions with California State Route 96 and is briefly co-signed with California State Route 3. In Redding, it intersects with California State Route 273, California State Route 44 and a short section is co-signed with Interstate 5. East of Redding, it intersects with California State Route 89 and a section is co-signed with California State Route 139 before reaching Alturas. It is then co-signed with US Highway 395 north-east of Alturas, then it runs east towards the border with Nevada. Arcata is a city located in Humboldt County, California. ... Route 79 continued N along present-day Riverside County Route R3, while Route 71 continued to the W. In 1966 (although historical information leads one to believe this happened in 1974), County Route R3 was defined, and Route 79 continued cosigned with Route 71 all the way to US 395 (now I-15).
