California State Route 89 is a California State Highway that travels in North-South direction, and is the major thoroughfare for many mountain communities. It starts from U.S. Highway 395 near Topaz Lake, winding its way past Lake Tahoe, through Tahoe and Plumas National Forests and Lassen Volcanic National Park, finally terminating at Interstate 5 at the foot of Mt. California State Route 24 is a heavily-traveled east-west freeway in the eastern side of the San Francisco Bay Area of northern California between Oakland (junction Interstate 580, the MacArthur Freeway) and Walnut Creek (junction Interstate 680).
Route 24 rises from near sea level in downtown Oakland past its interchange with California State Highway 13 to cross the county line through the dual Caldecott Tunnel and offers some attractive views of the mountainous terrain through which it passes.

Route 82 southbound then uses San Carlos Street northeast to reconnect with Market; this rerouting may have occured as a result of the construction of the I- 280 /Route 87 interchange and occured several years before San Jose Arena was finished.
Caltrans documentation from 1994 indicates that the unconstructed portion is from Route 580 to Route 4, and from W of Livermore to Route 580, replacing the traversible highway.
