With an area of 293,804 km² , it covers 70% of California territory and extends into southern Oregon and Baja California. The California Floristic Province (CFP) lies on the west coast of North America, mostly within the state of California (U.S.A.); however, small portions of south-western Oregon (U.S.A.) and north-western Baja California (Mexico) are included on the basis of similarities in flora and climate (Map 4)..
The CFP is approximately 324,000 km² in area: 285,000 km² in California, 25,000 km² in Oregon and 14,000 km² in Baja California (Raven and Axelrod 1978).
