Cuba travel | Camaguey, Ignacio Agramonte (752 words)
Camaguey with population of 800,000 has been politically and historically important since the beginning of the 16th century and still has a lot of well-preserved colonial buildings, most dating from the 18th and 19th centuries.
Camaguey also was stage of the North American occupation, in 1899 and 1917.
In 1933, it was stage of the Spanish aviators landings Barberán and Collar, in one of the longest overseas flights of the aviation history, the Sevilla - Camaguey.
STG:Camaguey (5631 words)
Camaguey, Cuba's third largest city overall and largest inland, is the capitol of the sprawling Camaguey province.
Camaguey is reasonably well connected to most major cities in Cuba, and also boasts its own international airport, Ignacio Agramonte about 5 miles from the city centre.
These can be found plying their trade throughout Camaguey, but tend to congregate in Plaza Maceo, and shouldn't cost you more than one or two dollars (for a fairly short journey; I doubt they'd be too keen to take you to the airport or, say, Havana).
