Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,330 people, 564 households, and 367 families residing in the village. The population density is 374.8/km² (974.3/mi²). There are 649 housing units at an average density of 182.9/km² (475.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 95.04% White, 2.26% African American, 0.45% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.75% from other races, and 1.43% from two or more races. 1.73% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. The Mayor of Cambria is William "Bill" Herron (I), a retired butcher. The mayor serves a four year term, and Herron is in his third consecutive term.


Village trustees are retired civil servant William "Bill" McKenzie (I), Fish and Wildlife Service employee Robert "Bruce" Whitecotton (I), Williamson County Sheriff's Department Captain Les Higgins (I), dental hygenist Jennifer Sherry (I), criminal justice instructor Charles "Rick" Ellett, and anestesiologist Chistine Dakin (I). Village trustees serve four year terms.


Village Board meeting are held every first and third Thursday of the month at the Cambria Village Hall located in the old Cambria Grade School.


Police and Crime

The Cambria Police Chief is Rick Upton. The Village also maintains a force of five part-time officers and boasts one of the lowest crime rates in Williamson County.


Business and Industry

The village of Cambria, located in the northwestern Williamson County--one of the fastest growing regions in the the state. Currently, Cambria has one service station/convenience store, an automotive dealership, and a few auto repair shops.


Cambria is located in the Carterville School Distict Unit 5. The Cambria Grade School closed in 1998 when the the Tri-C communities of Carterville, Cambria, and Crainville consolidated all Kindergarten through middle school grade levels.


Cambria is located near John A. Logan College located in Carterville and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale.


Faith and Religion

Cambria is home to three major churches. The majority of Cambrians profess the Protestant faith.
