Camdenton is a city located in Camden County, Missouri. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,779. It is the county seat of Camden County6.


Geography

Camdenton is located at 38°0'32" North, 92°44'47" West (38.008890, _92.746484)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.0 km˛ (3.5 mi˛). 9.0 km˛ (3.5 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 2,779 people, 1,149 households, and 708 families residing in the city. The population density is 307.4/km˛ (795.3/mi˛). There are 1,283 housing units at an average density of 141.9/km˛ (367.2/mi˛). The racial makeup of the city is 95.65% White, 0.18% African American, 0.90% Native American, 0.76% Asian, 0.14% Pacific Islander, 0.50% from other races, and 1.87% from two or more races. 2.16% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,149 households out of which 34.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.4% are married couples living together, 16.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 38.3% are non-families. 33.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.99.


In the city the population is spread out with 27.6% under the age of 18, 9.7% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 18.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 90.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 80.7 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $26,649, and the median income for a family is $29,342. Males have a median income of $25,156 versus $20,431 for females. The per capita income for the city is $14,040. 17.1% of the population and 15.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 21.8% of those under the age of 18 and 16.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
