Cameron, a junior at the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire, is trying to unseat eight-year incumbent Rob Kreibich to represent the district.
Cameron: Wisconsin's tipping fees (the rates garbage haulers are charged to dispose of trash in landfills) are lower than neighboring states, which is why this is a problem.
Cameron is not the youngest candidate in the state.
"(Cameron) is obviously very interested because he's already taking the initiative to do something and running against an incumbent," he said.
Kreibich said Cameron's plan to raise the tipping fee garbage haulers are charged at landfills will pass the burden on to consumers.
According to Wisconsin Democracy Campaign, a non-profit group that advocates campaign finance reform, Kreibich received 36.9 percent of contributions of $100 or more between Jan. 1, 1999 through Aug. 28, 2000 from outside of his district, while Cameron received 73.1 percent.
