Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 413 km˛ (159 mi˛). 393 km˛ (152 mi˛) of it is land and 20 km˛ (8 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 4.94% water.
Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 88,616 people, 34,742 households, and 23,103 families residing in the county. The population density is 226/km˛ (585/mi˛). There are 36,898 housing units at an average density of 94/km˛ (244/mi˛). The racial makeup of the county is 96.64% White, 1.57% Black or African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.54% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.31% from other races, and 0.76% from two or more races. 0.86% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 34,742 households out of which 32.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.30% are married couples living together, 12.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.50% are non-families. 28.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.90% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
