Campton is a town located in Grafton County, New Hampshire. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,719.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 136.0 km² (52.5 mi²). 134.5 km² (51.9 mi²) of it is land and 1.5 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.12% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 2,719 people, 1,128 households, and 759 families residing in the town. The population density is 20.2/km² (52.4/mi²). There are 1,759 housing units at an average density of 13.1/km² (33.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.01% White, 0.04% African American, 0.04% Native American, 0.70% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. 0.40% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,128 households out of which 30.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.8% are married couples living together, 8.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.7% are non-families. 25.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.41 and the average family size is 2.89.
