In cases where malls have the same amount of space, they are further ranked by number of stores. Note: There are a number of possible ways to measure the size of a mall, which has led to conflicting claims regarding the relative sizes of various malls. For example, the Mall of America makes a claim to be the largest mall in the United States, but it is the largest only in term of overall total space, a number of other malls have more GLA, and thus claim to larger. However GLA is the measure used most commonly by mall developers themselves in describing their property holdings.
