Canadian Forces Decoration

The Canadian Efficiency Decoration was a Canadian military award given to officers of the non-permanant active militia, RCAF Auxilary and Reserve who completed twenty years of meritorious military service. A bar was issued for an additional 20 years of meritorious service. Approximately 3,700 medals were issued. A military decoration is a decoration given to military personnel or units for heroism in battle or distinguished service. ... Time spent in war service counted double towards the 20 year requirement and time spent in the ranks counted as half. This award was superseded by the Canadian Forces Decoration. Canadian Forces Decoration is a Canadian military award given to officers and soldiers of the Canadian Armed Forces who have completed twelve years of military service.
The medal may be awarded to persons in possession of any long service, good conduct or efficiency decoration or medal clasps, provided that the individual has completed the full qualifying periods of service for each award and that no service qualifying towards one award is permitted to count towards any other.
Recipients of the Canadian Forces Decoration are entitled to use the Post Nominal letters "CD".

The Canadian Army ceased in February 1968 with the integration of the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Army and the Royal Canadian Air Force under the Canadian Armed Forces.
It was on 16 December, on Salisbury Plain, that the Battalion was sub-titled "The Canadian Scottish".
Dempster re enlisted in 1932 with the 1st Battalion of the Canadian Scottish Regiment and was transferred to the 3rd reserve Battalion in 1941.
