In mixed curling, the positions on a team must alternate between men and women. If a man throws last rocks, which is usually the case, a woman must throw the lead rocks and the third positions rocks, while the other male member of the team throws the second's rocks. Only once has a woman ever thrown last rocks (skipped) and won a championship, and that was Shannon Kleibrink in 2004. At an early age, she gained success in competitive curling and was only 19 years old when she won the first of her 16 Nova Scotia curling titles that led to competing in the Canadianchampionships where she finished second.
In 1999, Jones won the Canadiancurling title for the second time then did it again in 2001 when she also won the World CurlingChampionship in Lausanne, Switzerland.
She followed this up with another Canadianchampionship in 2002 and then won it for a record setting fifth time at the 2004 Scott Tournament of Hearts which also made her the first skip to win 4 straight Canadian titles.
