The Canadian Mixed Curling Championship is the national curling championship for mixed curling in Canada. It is considered as the highest level of mixed curling in the world, with the absence of a World Championships. However, a European Mixed Curling Champioships also exists. In mixed curling, the positions on a team must alternate between men and women. If a man throws last rocks, which is usually the case, a woman must throw the lead rocks and the third positions rocks, while the other male member of the team throws the second's rocks. Only once has a woman ever thrown last rocks (skipped) and won a championship, and that was Shannon Kleibrink in 2004. Colleen Jones - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (386 words)
At an early age, she gained success in competitive curling and was only 19 years old when she won the first of her 16 Nova Scotia curling titles that led to competing in the Canadian championships where she finished second.
In 1999, Jones won the Canadian curling title for the second time then did it again in 2001 when she also won the World Curling Championship in Lausanne, Switzerland.
She followed this up with another Canadian championship in 2002 and then won it for a record setting fifth time at the 2004 Scott Tournament of Hearts which also made her the first skip to win 4 straight Canadian titles.

In 1973, the House of Seagrams assumed the sponsorship of the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship which was relinquished in 1983.
Mixed curling continues to lead the way in the growth category in almost all clubs throughout Canada.
Mixed curling is well and truly established in Canada and will most likely continue to grow in popularity in the years to come.
