Encyclopedia > Canadian Olympic Committee

The Canadian Olympic Committee is the private, non-profit organization representing Canadian athletes in the International Olympic Committee and the Pan American Games. It was formally recognized by the IOC in 1907. The COC also helps in supporting the selection of Canadian cities in their bid for being the site for an Olympic or Pan American Games. The COC currently represents 464 athletes and is structured into three levels of governance:

  • Executive Committee
  • Board of Directors
  • General membership

The COC looks forward to continuing the discussion with Minister Owen on the allocation of the remaining $20 million announced in May as part of the Martin governmentÂ’s $30-million additional investment in high performance sport.
The Canadian Olympic Order is accorded to those individuals who have made the Olympic Movement their life's work and have served it with distinction.
An organizing committee, composed by representatives of the city of Montréal, TOHU and the COC, was also struck in order to ensure the setting up of the route, the selection of the runners, some of whom will be well-known Olympic athletes, and the smooth progress of the festivities surrounding the relay.
