Early life
Barr's mother died when she was nine. Her father raised the family of five and later remarried a woman with four children. Together the couple had two more children of their own. Barr ran away from home while in ninth grade, reportedly because of sexual abuse. Burlesque and blue films In 1951, Barr starred in one of the most widely circulated of the early underground pornographic "stag films," Smart Alec. In the brief movie, she has sexual intercourse with a man in a hotel room but then refuses to perform fellatio on him. When he insists, she telephones a female friend who comes to the room and services the man. Barr was 16 years old at the time, and later claimed she was drugged before filming. Some accounts say she was forced at gunpoint to participate.This explanation seems doubtful, given that she seems not only to accept but also to enjoy her role in the film.
