Cane Savannah is a census-designated place located in Sumter County, South Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 1,452.


Geography

Cane Savannah is located at 33°53'32" North, 80°26'14" West (33.892258, -80.437346)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 11.0 km˛ (4.3 mi˛). 10.9 km˛ (4.2 mi˛) of it is land and 0.2 km˛ (0.1 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 1.64% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,452 people, 488 households, and 404 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 133.8/km˛ (346.4/mi˛). There are 524 housing units at an average density of 48.3/km˛ (125.0/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 64.33% White, 34.71% African American, 0.28% Native American, 0.62% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.07% from two or more races. 1.03% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 488 households out of which 45.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.6% are married couples living together, 12.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.2% are non-families. 13.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.98 and the average family size is 3.28.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 30.9% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 33.0% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 6.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 99.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.1 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $41,607, and the median income for a family is $42,197. Males have a median income of $27,540 versus $21,049 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $14,529. 12.8% of the population and 10.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 25.3% of those under the age of 18 and 4.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
