In the Roman church it is a reference to those dead members of the Roman church who have been canonised because of their alleged miracle-working powers.
There is the case of the Albanian called Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu who was born in Macedonia in 1910 and died in 1997.
He will be canonised through people claiming miracles have been done when they prayed to him and he too will be pronounced a 'saint'.

The first to be canonised was Luigi Scrosoppi (1804-1884) who spent his life committed to providing charity to the poor and weak.
Agostino Roscelli (1818-1902) founded the congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception in the northern Italian city of Genoa and was a pillar of faith in his community, the Pope said as he elevated him.
Also canonised were Bernardo da Corleone (1605-1667), Teresa Eustochio Verzeri (1801-1852), a nun, and Rafqa Pietra Choboq Ar-Rayes (1832-1914), a Lebanese Maronite Christian and nun.
