Cape May Court House is a census-designated place located in Cape May County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 4,704.


Geography

Cape May Court House is located at 39°4'50" North, 74°49'28" West (39.080425, -74.824428)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 23.6 km² (9.1 mi²). 23.3 km² (9.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.54% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 4,704 people, 1,732 households, and 1,221 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 202.3/km² (524.1/mi²). There are 2,086 housing units at an average density of 89.7/km² (232.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 84.35% White, 10.88% African American, 0.19% Native American, 2.70% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.40% from other races, and 1.40% from two or more races. 1.57% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 1,732 households out of which 31.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.4% are married couples living together, 11.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.5% are non-families. 24.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 3.07.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 25.8% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 19.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 86.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 81.4 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $48,902, and the median income for a family is $56,707. Males have a median income of $39,848 versus $28,043 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $21,541. 7.0% of the population and 5.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 12.1% of those under the age of 18 and 4.4% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
