It advertises itself as the premier shopping destination in Cardiff. This is somewhat of an exaggeration since the centre itself is fairly small, especially compared to nearby Queen's Arcade and St. David's Centre. It focuses on the higher end of the women's fashion, with tenants such as Wallis, Jaeger, Karen Millen, Dune, Phase Eight and Austin Reed. It is anchored by a large H&M store. The centre is arguably inconveniently located as it is separated from the main shopping area of Cardiff's city centre. That said, it occupies a crucial position as the first shopping centre potential customers pass if they alight (from a bus) at Dumfries Place or (from a train) at Cardiff Queen Street. Built in the late 1980s, the centre was originally built to look vaguely Victorian, but this dated quickly. The centre later underwent a major refurbishment and remodel, getting rid of the food court (although there are still cafés upstairs) and making it look modern, stylish and contemporary. That said, the exterior side of the building remains much the same bar the metal canopy being painted silver. The centre has just undergone a rebranding exercise. The term Victorian architecture can refer to one of a number of architectural styles predominantly in the Victorian era. ...
