The Carbon Glacier is the source of the Carbon River. It is accessible from the northwest Carbon River entrance of Mount Rainier National Park just outside the town of Carbonado Washington. The Carbon Glacier is the lowest-elevation glacier in the 48 contiguous United States at around 3700 ft. Also, it has the thickest ice in the lower 48, with maximum ice thickness at around 700 ft. The snout of the glacier is accessible by a 7-mile round trip hike. Mount Rainier is a stratovolcano located 54 miles (87 km) southeast of Seattle, Washington, in the United States. ...
