The island has no rats, and as a result has a wide variety of birdlife including night herons, as well as seals and penguins. It is currently run as a sheep farm. Its small settlement, lying on Port Patterson on the south west coast, is also known for its gardens, and has a small shop.
The island is known as Isla del Rosario in Spanish.
Found in all habitats on the island, including the outskirts of urban areas, they particularly like dry sclerophyll forests and coastal woodlands.
