The station itself has three platforms at a level raised above the surrounding roads. The main services run down from platform 1, and up from platform 2. Platforms 1 and 2 are on a central island, with platform 3 being the stopping point for services to Cardiff Bay, and City line services to Radyr. Trains for Coryton, Rhymney, Aberdare, Treherbert and Merthyr leave from Platform 1. While trains to Cardiff, Barry, Maesteg and Penarth leave from Platform 2. The old station car park is now dedicated for private use by residents of a nearby modern development of apartments known as "The Aspect". The station is staffed at most times, with ticket purchase facilities and a small newsagent on-site. Toilets are found on the island platforms.
