History

Cardiff Royal Infirmary began with the begining of Cardiff Dispensary in 1822. It was moved to the present building in 1837 and was called as King Edward Hospital. In 1923 it came to be known as cardiff Royal Infirmary with a total bed strength of 100, which was later increased to 500 due to growing population of Cardiff. King Edward has been the name of several monarchs in English history: Edward the Elder Edward the Martyr Edward the Confessor Edward I of England Edward II of England Edward III of England Edward IV of England Edward V of England Edward VI of England Edward VII of the United...


The Hospital

The hospital itself had a bed strength of 500 providing all the facilities, When the University Hospital of Wales as built in 1972, most facilities were moved there gradually. The infirmary ceased to provide most medical facilities in 2000. University Hospital of Wales (referred to locally as the Heath) is situated on the outskirts of central Cardiff, Wales. ...


West Wing

West Wing is the inpatient wards near Cardiff Royal Infirmary which functions independently from CRI. It is a rehabilitation block manned by staff from the University Hospital of Wales. The CRI is just used for clinics.
