Cardinal Stritch University is a private Roman Catholic university located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was founded in 1937 as St. Clare College by the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi to train nuns as teachers. It was renamed Cardinal Stritch College in 1946 for Samuel Cardinal Stritch of Chicago, who was archbishop of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee during the 1930s. The institution became Cardinal Stritch University in 1997. In 1998, the university expanded to offer its first doctoral program.
