Cariboo was a former federal electoral district represented in the Canadian House of Commons, and located in the province of British Columbia. This riding was first created as Cariboo District following British Columbia's admission into the Canadian Confederation in 1871. The name was changed to simply Cariboo in 1872, and existed in this form until it was abolished in 1892 when it was amalgamated into the new riding of Yale—Cariboo. The Cariboo is a region of British Columbia along a plateau stretching from the Fraser Canyon to the Cariboo Mountains.
The plateau is part of the Fraser Plateau and is also known of the Cariboo Plateau; its southern limit is the Bonaparte River although the Cariboo Region is considered to extend to the Thompson River to the south of that, and to border on the city of Kamloops at its southeastern corner.
The Cariboo region is generally considered to reach as far southeast as the city of Kamloops and to include the Cache Creek and Lillooet areas in the south.
