Carl Dennis, an American poet, wrote Practical Gods, a Pulitzer winning collection of poetry. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, on September 17, 1939. Dennis attended Oberlin College and the University of Chicago, but attained his bachelors degree from the University of Minnesota in 1961. For most of his career he worked at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
