Carl S. Dudley joined the faculty of Hartford Seminary in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1993 as Professor of Church and Community and from 1993 until 1999 was Co-director of the Seminary's Hartford Institute for Religion Research.
Dudley is nationally known for his work in mobilizing local churches for community ministries, and is recognized for his long history of working for such causes as the peace movement, civil rights for the incarcerated and housing reform.
Dudley was born in Baltimore in 1932 and graduated from Cornell University in 1954 with a bachelor of arts in psychology and sociology.
CarlDudley, ten years ago, provided those who were engaged in social ministry a most valuable book entitled “Basic Steps Toward Community Ministry.” The volume contained the flesh and blood realities of ministry in ordinary congregations, chronicling the extraordinary accomplishments of ordinary congregations.
It is Dudley’s contention that government has been attracted to the highly professional response that faith-based agencies rendered to communities, as well as the enviable track record that they have demonstrated.
Dudley devotes an entire chapter to the new opportunities that are available to agencies, delineating the advantages that the government initiatives foster.
