Carl Mikuli (1819–1897) is most well known as an editor of works by Chopin, his teacher. He later became a teaching assistant to Chopin. Mikuli was a pianist himself as well as a composer, conductor and teacher. His students included Moriz Rosenthal.
Dover Publications currently publishes reprints of his 1879editions of Chopin's piano music. His goal, as stated in the foreward of the edition, is was to provide more reliable editions and he used several verified sources most of which were written or corrected by Chopin himself. Mikuli also took detailed notes of Chopin's comments made in lessons and interviewed witnesses of Chopin's performances by musical authorities. His editions of Chopin's works were first published in America in 1895.
