Carlile is a census-designated place located in Sequoyah County, Oklahoma. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 649.


Geography

Carlile is located at 35°29'43" North, 95°2'22" West (35.495325, _95.039503)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 68.3 km˛ (26.4 mi˛), and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 649 people, 233 households, and 178 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 9.5/km˛ (24.6/mi˛). There are 260 housing units at an average density of 3.8/km˛ (9.9/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 66.72% White, 3.24% Black or African American, 23.73% Native American, 0.31% Asian, no Pacific Islanders, 0.15% from other races, and 5.86% from two or more races. 2.47% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 233 households out of which 33.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.1% are married couples living together, 9.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.6% are non-families. 18.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.79 and the average family size is 3.14.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 28.5% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 25.4% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 14.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 95.0 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $22,109, and the median income for a family is $30,500. Males have a median income of $25,809 versus $37,188 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $14,798. 28.3% of the population and 23.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 43.2% of those under the age of 18 and 17.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
