Carlinhos (Luís Carlos Nunes da Silva) was born in 11/19/1937 in Rio de Janeiro and played in Flamengo between 1958 and 1970. By his elegant football and his thin voice was konwn as "The Volin", and also played in the National Team several times in the 60´s. His victorious career as a coach started in 1987, when the former coach was fired for the bad results in tha national championship. At that time Flamengo has an old team, with a few player that were chapions in 1980/82/83 and young ones, that has just came from the youth squad. Zico, the main star of the company, was injuried, since the World Cup in 1986 and only played four matches, the decisive ones, and the final, against International in Maracanã. Carlinhos, with a litte luck and a lot of knowledge of the ways of the football mixed the veterans and the newbies and criated a very competitive team, tha won that championship. Four players World Champions in the USA in 1994 played in that team, Bebeto, Zinho, Aldair and Leonardo. Carlinhos came back in 1992, in similar conditions, only one star, Júnior, near by his retirement, and a lot of newbies. But he won agin the National Championship in a letrifing final against Botafogo, wining the first game for 3-0, and tieing the scond one 2-2. Nowadays was retired, living in Rio de Janeiro, in the Leblon neighboorhood, a few blocks away from Flamengo, in Gávea.

Carlinhos Brown is one of the leaders of a movement that takes the traditional Afro-Brazilian drumming, and sets it to pop beat, with electric guitars and a brass section.
Carlinhos Brown credits the group Ile Aiye, "They have maintained this tradition of what it means to be Black in Bahia, to bee poor in Brazil, singing about slavery, colonization, and pain." However, Brown has a different message.
