Injuries meant that the number one jersey was on something of a rotation, but the music stopped with the gloves on Cudicini, and his form meant nobody was going to displace him.
Despite a slow start to the 2002/03 campaign, Cudicini remained one of the top stoppers in England and is the undisputed first choice at Stamford Bridge.
Cudicini now qualifies to play for England, despite having been named in full Italy squads, but it is doubtful he will choose to change his national side.
