Carlo Mario Abate (born in Turin, July 10, 1932) was an italian autoracing driver. By French origins, was one of the best Ferrari 250 GTO specialists. Raced mostly for the private Italian team Scuderia Serenissima of Count Volpi, but also for Scuderia Centro Sud, Scuderia Ferrari and the Porsche AG factory team. In 1959 won not competitive race Mille Miglia with G. Balzarini. In 1962 season he tried partecipating Formula One races France and Germany with Lotus-Climax, but failed qualifying. Retired from the sport at the end of the 1963 season, his greatest year, culminating with a win at the Targa Florio on a factory Porsche with Joakim Bonnier, ironically one of his rare non-Italian car outings. After partecipating at 1963 Italian Grand Prix (where is not qualified), become the director of a clinic.
