Encyclopedia > Carlos Pulido

Juan Carlos Pulido [poo-LEE-do] (born August 5, 1971 in Caracas, Venezuela) is a relief pitcher in Major League Baseball who plays with the Minnesota Twins (1994, 2003_04). He bats and throws left_handed.

Signed at 18 in 1989 by Minnesota, the hard_throwing Pulido was a bright prospect in the Twins' system, but a 1995 arm injury ruined his chances as a starting pitcher.

In a three-year career, Pulido has compiled a 3-8 record with 47 strikeouts and a 5.98 ERA in 111.1 innings.

Pulido is one of those rare lefties who, used for one or two left_handed batters, is not only effective but at times deadly. What killed his statistics is that several times he was left in to take beatings for two or more innings when the rest of the staff broke down. But ever the good soldier, he took his lickings and came back.
