Carmine once told Tony that "a Don doesn't wear shorts". Though he regarded Tony Soprano and the entire DiMeo Crime Family as nothing more than a "glorified crew", Lupertazzi does show some respect for Tony, and would prefer to see him doing well than not. This is most evident when he shows genuine concern for Tony's health after hearing rumours he sees a psychiatrist and has panic attacks.

One side was led by Carmine's underboss, Johnny Sack, while the other was ostensibly led by Carmine's son and Miami Capo "Little Carmine" Lupertazzi, although it is likely that Consigliere Angelo Garepe and Capo Rusty Millio were the real power behind this faction.
