Carnival is one of the world's most innovative cruise lines, and lists among its firsts that it was the only major cruise line to build and operate a completely smoke-free cruise ship, Paradise.
Carnival Destiny, a huge 101,353-GRT ship that carried 2,758 passengers, debuted in 1996, followed by two sister ships, Carnival Triumph (1999) and Carnival Victory (2000), both of which added another 700 GRT and 58 staterooms, bringing their capacity to 2,758 passengers.
Carnival Destiny will homeport in Aruba, offering exotic Southern Caribbean sailings, while almost all of the Fantasy-class ships will be deployed on short cruises ranging from three to five nights, visiting ports in the Bahamas, Mexico and the Caribbean.
CarnivalPride will sail on its inaugural cruise, a six-day western Caribbean voyage from Miami, Dec. 30, then serve as the venue for an overnight fundraising gala benefiting the United Way of Miami-Dade.
CarnivalPride will then reposition to its permanent homeport of Port Canaveral, Fla., from where it will operate a two-day preview cruise for the travel trade Jan. 7-9 and a three-day Bahamas cruise Jan. 9-12.
CarnivalPride offers a variety of ``resort-style'' amenities and facilities, including 16 themed bars and lounges with dramatic interiors celebrating ``icons of beauty'' that exist in art, architecture, sculpture and decor.
