Carol Decker (born September 10, 1957 in London) is a UK recording artist. She is best known as the singer and front woman from the band T'Pau, which enjoyed considerable international success in the late 1980s. Her partner at the time, Ronnie Rogers (born 13 March 1959 in Shrewsbury), was also a member of the band. In addition to her musical achievements, Decker has also acted on both stage and screen, including a part in the movie Nine Dead Gay Guys (Internet Movie Database entry). TV appearances include Hit Me Baby One More Time (in which she reached the final round, ultimately being beaten by Shakin' Stevens). Decker also appeared in the British comedy series Trigger Happy TV in which she appeared in a bull in the china shop sketch, the joke being that she had previously had a hit with the song 'china in your hand' and in another sketch where she accompanied Dom Joly as he pretended to be a door to door salesman. Hit Me Baby One More Time is a 2005 reality show first aired by ITV on British television, presented by Vernon Kay; a USA version was done later for NBC. Decker's announced solo career seemed, since she had half the writing credit for almost all of T'Pau's songs, including the hits, like a more plausible idea than, say, Terri Nunn's or Dale Bozzio's, but years went by without any sign of it.
Decker's voice, though, somewhere between Marie Fredriksson and Maria McKee, is still capable of airy melancholy and anthemic howl, and her instinct for sentimental magnificence is undimmed.
If Margo has Carol's capacity for dervish overdrive, she is careful to never reveal even a hint of it, and her stubborn restraint keeps the band on an even keel that makes 10,000 Maniacs sound like Aqua by comparison.
