María Carolina Olarte is a young Colombian jurist whose intellectual work has introduced the Critical Legal Studies in Colombia and has helped shaped the aspects of class actions in the Colombian Law, which are a new area of study in that country, because these actions were only fully included in the legislation in 1998 (with constitutional creation in 1991), the Colombian Civil Code included them as early as the XIX century, but their practical aplication was nule, due to the procesal aspects of the law (and the lack of imagination displayed by Colombian Judges and lawyers). Despite her young age, she has an active role in the academic field, being auxiliar professor in two of the main Colombian law Schools, Universidad del Rosario and Universidad Javeriana in areas as diverse as History of the Law and Judicial Interpretation. In Universidad del Rosario she's been one of the youngest titular professors, teaching History of Philosophy I. Her expierence includes working in the Colombia Constitutional Court.
