Encyclopedia > Caroline Paget

Caroline Paget (Lady Alexandra Mary Cecilia Caroline Paget) was the daughter of Sir Charles Henry Alexander Paget, 6th Marquess of Anglesey and Lady Victoria Marjorie Harriet Manners. She was born on 15 June 1913, and became the second wife of Sir Charles Michael Robert Vivian Duff (a nephew of Lady Diana Cooper) on 14 July 1949. She was beloved of the artist Rex Whistler, who painted numerous portraits of her, including a startling nude, [1]which is on display at Plas Newydd, (the ancestral home of the Marquess of Anglesey). There are several references to her in the published journals of Edith Olivier (Edith Olivier; From her Journals 1924-48 by Penelope Middleboe), and The National Screen and Sound Archive of Wales [2]has footage of short films featuring Caroline and her sister Elizabeth, as well as other material. She died on 22 May 1973, aged 59.
