His music has been performed internationally in opera, concert, dance and museum settings, from the Berkeley Art Museum in 1975 to the Pennsylvania Ballet in 1983 to a retrospective at the Mannheim National Theater in 1995.
Kievman's major commissions include Joseph Papp's New York Shakespeare Festival (1987-91 and 1978-79), the Tanglewood Music Festival (1977-78), the Donaueschingen Festival/Sudwestfunk (1982-84), and the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra (1990-91).
Born in 1949, Kievman received his MFA in 1977 at California Institute of the Arts.
The recipient of numerous international awards, Kievman was admitted with a Naumberg Fellowship to Princeton University and a commission Henry Eight's Harvest, for Henry's Eight Consort from the Niedersachsen Musiktage to for a concert open the European Expo 2000 in Germany and broadcast throughout Europe by NDR Radio.
Kievman's multi-media composition "Multinationals and The Heavens" was produced at the Darmstadt Ferienkurse fur Neue Musik, at California Institute of the Arts, in New York City, and subsequently in the musical theaters and halls throughout Europe.
Kievman was appointed Composer-in-Residence of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra in 1990.
