Admiral Cartwright_Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Cartwright is a character from the fictional universe of Star Trek. Cartwright holds the rank of Admiral and is an officer in Starfleet. In Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, the admiral was on Earth when Starfleet ships confirmed the presence of an un-identified cyclinder-like ship on a direct intercept course with Earth. A sphere was suspended just a short way down from the ship by a bright glowing tractor beam. The sphere was putting out a communication which caused extream damage to the power grid of anything in its path. After disabling several ships and an entire Starbase, the ship proceeded straight for Earth. Upon its arrival, it began to direct its transmission towards the oceans. Earths entire power grid failed, but the emergancy power grid was unaffected for the most part. As the weather control grid was out, chaotic weather devestated Earth. Cartwright and the Federation President attempted to help save as many people from the alien ship as possible. All Cartwright's attempts at responding failed, when he received a transmisson from Captian James T. Kirk aboard his captured Klingon Bird of Prey. Cartwright was told Kirk was going to attempt time travel, to respond to the probe. The transmition died just as Kirk began to explain how, and Cartwright simply ordered "Get him back! Get him back!". While Kirk was in the past, attempting to save Earth from the alien ship (later named "The Whale Probe") Cartwright and the president where attempting to maintain Earth until Kirk managed to get the probe to return to its place of origin.
Admiral Cartwright_Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
In Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country Admiral Cartwright is transformed from heroic figure to evil mastermind. Cartwright was involved in a secret plot against both the United Federation of Planets and The Klingon Empire. Cartwright was at the meeting in which Captain James T. Kirk was assigned to meet the Klingon Chancellors ship, Kronos One. He sided with General Chang (Klingon) when the group had decided to use the prototype Bird of Prey to assisinate Chancellor Gorkon. When Chang arrested Kirk and Leonard McCoy, he presented a plan to the Federation President to launch a rescue operation. The President rejected the plan, and Cartwright decided more extream action had to be taken. He attended the secret confrence between Romulus, The Klingon Empire and The United Federation of Planets. He had one of his officers, disquised as a Klingon head into one of th eupper booth_like areas. The officer cut a hole in the glass, armed with a snip proceeded to attempted to kill the President as he gave his speech. Kirk however, beamed down just in the nick of time and saved the Federation President, as Scotty badly injured the assisain. Cartwright attempted to flee, but was captured by Captain Hikaru Sulu as he (Sulu) beamed down.
HAD Edmund Cartwright thought for one moment of the hardship and misery he was about to unleash on a vulnerable section of society, he would never have sat down to invent the power loom.
Cartwright (1743-1823) was a Church of England minister, with a clergyman's love for his fellow man, so he would have been mortified to watch the long, agonising death throes of the hand-loom weaving industry that his invention caused.
Cartwright was marked down for the church and in 1772 he was appointed curate of Brampton, near Wakefield, moving, seven years later, to become vicar of Goadby Marwood in Leicestershire.
