Caryville is a town located in Campbell County, Tennessee. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 2,243.

Geography

Caryville is located at 36°19'12" North, 84°12'58" West (36.319933, _84.216040)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 14.1 km² (5.5 mi²). 13.5 km² (5.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.58% water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 2,243 people, 897 households, and 644 families residing in the town. The population density is 166.5/km² (431.0/mi²). There are 999 housing units at an average density of 74.2/km² (192.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.15% White, 0.27% African American, 0.53% Native American, 0.27% Asian, 0.18% Pacific Islander, 0.76% from other races, and 0.85% from two or more races. 2.50% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 897 households out of which 33.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.7% are married couples living together, 12.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.2% are non-families. 24.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.50 and the average family size is 2.95.

In the town the population is spread out with 24.5% under the age of 18, 9.1% from 18 to 24, 31.1% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 96.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.5 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $28,307, and the median income for a family is $32,604. Males have a median income of $25,094 versus $19,500 for females. The per capita income for the town is $14,452. 17.0% of the population and 14.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 23.7% of those under the age of 18 and 14.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
