Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow. Plot The quartet are so skint they are burning up their clothes and belongings just to keep warm, while Neil is being forced into preparing meals of snow from outside. Eventually they decide that someone - Rick - needs to get a job to bring money into the house, but when the only vacancy advertised in the local paper is for the Army, Rick and Mike both rule themselves out on medical grounds while Vyvyan, after Neil demands to know why he can't join up, declares he is pregnant. After half a haircut and a quick borrow of Mike's suit, Neil goes to join up but is rejected for his pacifism, only to be thrown into the police station next door when the others spot a recruitment poster. While the others get lucky when a lorry crash loads their house with furnishings and food, Neil takes to his new job - arresting a bunch of his druggged-up hippie friends on his first day - before trying to arrest his flatmates when he assumes they had thieved all of the luxury items he found in the house on arriving home. His harsh use of the truncheon forces Vyvyan into labour - and, as a squeamish Mike leaves the room, a huge expulsion of wind enters the world. Vyvyan and Rick are handcuffed to Neil so can't escape the smell, and an unaware Mike tries to light a celebratory cigar, sending all their new-found riches up in smoke.
