The Irish form Casla is more commonly used than Costelloe by English speakers, even when using English. Casla is also by the local community, neighbouring areas and local media. The anglicised form Costelloe is a mistranslation as Casla was wrongly thought to be the Irish for the Irish surname Costelloe. Even when the name Costelloe is said in English by people from the west of County Galway it sounds like Casla.
