Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,466 km˛ (566 mi˛). 1,448 km˛ (559 mi˛) of it is land and 18 km˛ (7 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 1.24% water.
Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 24,334 people, 9,161 households, and 6,806 families residing in the county. The population density is 17/km˛ (44/mi˛). There are 10,179 housing units at an average density of 7/km˛ (18/mi˛). The racial makeup of the county is 97.89% White, 0.18% Black or African American, 0.30% Native American, 0.35% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.35% from other races, and 0.92% from two or more races. 1.46% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
