Cassius is a French electronic music duo, composed of Hubert Blanc-Francard (aka Boom Bass) and Philippe Cerboneschi (aka Zdar). Boombass grew up on the west side of Paris. His father was a Parisian record producer, so he continued in this way. After some try to do music by himself when he was young, he got a job as a teaboy at a recording studio. And in 1991 he became producer on the MC Solaar's first album. Philippe grew up in the Alps, and next came to Paris where he landed a job assisting Hubert's father and studied to become a studio engineer. He met Hubert in 1988, they were both fascinated by Hip Hop sound: “We were into music before, but it wasn't our music. Hip hop was ours, it wasn't our parents' records". The friendship between the pair was born and Phillippe became Hubert's engineer. In the same time that they produced three very successful albums for Mc Solaar, they worked on their first solo project: La Funk Mob in wich they experimented hip hop/funk/electro sound. In 1992 something append to Phillippe: “I went to a rave, from then on I loved techno." It was the last element of the alchemy: now Cassius could start to grew. They released their first atemp “Ravers Suck Our Sound” EP on La Funk Mob in 1994. Hubert jumped on another project with Etienne de Crecy with whom he invented Motorbass's Pansoul, an album of deep midnight house music, in 1996. This album is one of the forerunner of French house music's dynamic first wave (the “French Touch”), along with Daft Punk's Homework (1997), Dimitri From Paris' Sacrebleu (1996) and Etienne de Crecy's Super Discount (1996). After that, Philippe asked Hubert for making a house track as a laugh. The result was "Foxy Lady", their first single (1996), by L'Homme Qui Valait Trois Millards (The Six Million Dollar Man) which was a success and became a classic. With this track, Hubert started to realize house music was maybe the better than techno, especially to show all their music culture, from Hip Hop to techno by funk and Drum 'n' Bass.
